George J. Stevenson
George J. Stevenson has
an extensive background in the merger, acquisition, valuation and sale
of U.S. businesses.
His firm, Stevenson & Company, specializes
in the sale of closely held corporations and corporate divisions, the
management of corporate acquisition programs, and the valuation of mid-size
companies.
Previously, Mr. Stevenson was President
of another merger and acquisition company and headed his own manufacturing
business. He was also Director of Corporate Development for National Tea
company, where he was responsible for divesting several operating units,
and a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, where he worked on
merger and acquisition strategy plans for major corporations.
Mr. Stevenson has successfully completed
acquisitions and valuations in the manufacturing, metal working, material
handling, food, office products, information and electronics industries.
Mr. Stevenson has an MBA with Distinction
from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Engineering from Iowa State
University. He is a past President of the Chicago Chapter of the Association
for Corporate Growth (ACG) and a former member of the Board of the Center
for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago, the Board of Directors of Tarkio
College and a founder and past President of the Alliance of Business Brokers
and Intermediaries. He is currently a member of the Chicago Harvard Business
School Club and member of the Board of Directors of the Midwest Business Brokers and Intermediaries
Association.
Clifford S. Deremo
Clifford S. Deremo joined Stevenson & Company after twenty years of senior management experience at several Fortune 200 manufacturing companies.
Most recently, Mr. Deremo was with Avery Dennison as Vice President and General Manager of one of their operating divisions. This division manufactured highway safety products and was created as a result of Avery?s acquisition of Stimsonite Corporation in 1999. Prior to joining Stimsonite in 1995, Mr. Deremo was with FMC Corporation for fifteen years where he held finance, sales, and general management positions in a variety of industries including packaging, plastics, automation, and transportation. He also has extensive international experience having overseen operations in Europe, Latin America and Asia. As an operating manager, he has been involved in a number of acquisitions and divestitures ranging in size from $5-$150 million.
Mr. Deremo has an MBA from the University of Michigan and a B.A. with High Honors from Michigan State University. He is currently a member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), Midwest Business Brokers & Intermediaries (MBBI) and The Executive Committee (TEC).
Thomas P. McNeely
Thomas P. McNeely, CFA. Before joining the Stevenson team, Tom spent fifteen years in the hardware, housewares, and sporting goods field in a variety of sales and marketing positions. For Stevenson & Company, he will specialize in these consumer products sectors.
Tom has sold and marketed a wide variety of products across all retail and distributor channels: Big Box, Mass Merchant, Discount, Co-operative, and Catalog Showroom. Tom has been a featured speaker at local and national industry trade shows, and recently spoke on the topic of ?Maximizing Business Value for the Supplier Community? at the sporting goods industry SGMA Super Show. In addition, he has owned and operated a family business, giving him intimate knowledge of the delicate merger dynamics that occur with family and privately-owned businesses.
Tom received a B.A. in economics from the University of Illinois and received an MBA in finance from DePaul University. Earlier in his career, Tom was a financial futures pit trader at the Chicago Board of Trade. He was awarded his Chartered Financial Analyst ? designation in 2003 and is a member of the Investment Analysts Society of Chicago.
Tom lives in Wilmette, IL with his wife Sheila and their three children. His hobbies include golf, skiing, and reading.
Eston M. Gross
Eston M. Gross joined Stevenson
and Company after a career with Akzo Nobel, a multinational chemical corporation,
and as an intermediary in European mergers and acquisitions. During his
tenure as acquisition coordinator at Akzo Nobel headquarters in the Netherlands,
28 companies were acquired worldwide with a value of approximately $1.4
billion.
After leaving Akzo Nobel, he was active
as a consultant to several London investment banks and later as an intermediary
in Amsterdam, affiliated with a firm that was part of a European M & A
network specializing in cross-border transactions. He worked extensively
with clients in the chemical, coatings, pharmaceuticals, plastics, and
food ingredients industries. Mr. Gross was also retained as a strategic
planning advisor to a number of chemical and pharmaceutical companies
in Central Europe. He returned to the United States in late 1997.
Mr. Gross has an M.S. in Industrial Administration
from Carnegie-Mellon University, an M.S. in Chemistry from the University
of Wisconsin, and a B.S. in Chemistry with High Distinction from the University
of Minnesota. He is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth,
the University Club of Chicago, Midwest Business Brokers & Intermediaries
(MBBI), and the Mergers International network, an affiliation of European
and U.S. acquisition intermediaries.
Jason C. Ewing
Jason C. Ewing is Managing Director at Stevenson & Company. Ewing focuses his practice on advising mid-market business owners on strategies for business growth, enhancing overall business viability and creating personal liquidity. He has developed significant M&A expertise in capital raising, acquisition advisory and business sales. Ewing has worked on M&A assignments for companies in a variety of industries including: software, consulting, business services, telecommunications, engineering services, printing, distribution, staffing, custom design packaging, automotive, construction, specialty trucking, consumer products and specialty manufacturing. He is a leader in the M&A profession in Chicago: for his creative and tireless work with General Electric and Greenfield Commercial Credit on the financing of a large, troubled manufacturing company, Ewing was awarded the 2006 Collaboration Award from the Midwest Business Brokers and Intermediaries Association. Additionally, Ewing currently serves on the board of Eclipsecurity, LLC (www.eclipsec.com ), a consulting company that assesses and manages enterprise risk and security for fortune 500 companies.
Prior to joining Stevenson & Company, Ewing's M&A experience included working for Vcapital Inc., a Chicago based Venture Capital firm, Jesup & Lamont, a 125 year old New York City based investment bank and working for a Chicago based boutique investment bank focused on acquisition search, business sales of healthy and distressed companies, and Asia related M&A. Prior to Ewing’s investment banking experience, he worked in the telecommunications industry for AT&T consulting with mid-market businesses regarding competitive strategies utilizing internet, data and telecommunications technologies. In addition, he served as General Manager for Frontier Communications (Fortune 500), responsible for the sales, marketing and overall profitability of the Chicago region.
Ewing’s hobbies include golf, triathlons, gardening, international travel and teaching private wine classes. He also volunteers as an interviewer for the Daniel Murphy Scholarship Foundation ( www.dmsf.org ), a non-profit organization that provides four-year high school scholarships and educational support services to economically disadvantaged Chicago eighth grade students who demonstrate academic potential in order to ensure they are properly prepared for college.
Ewing has an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, major in Finance; and a B.A. in Psychology from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
